    Bye Bye Birdie

~edit~ I'm reposting this from last year. I'm taking my girls to see the local high school put it on this afternoon. I wonder if they'll do as good of a job as we did, lol! (I left the old comments up.)

When I was a senior in high school, for some unknown reason, I decided to try out for the school musical. I need to explain that I have never sung anywhere except at church so I don't know what possessed me to do it.
It's been so long ago that I dont' remember the character's names. I think I remember the that there was a Hugo? And I think there was a Kim. Dayum I'm getting old.

I rehearsed and ran my lines and was sure that I would get the part I desired. I was wrong! A girl that was 2 years younger than me got the part that I wanted (Momma). I was pretty devastated but I was offered 3 different parts instead or maybe it was 5. I think it was 5 but 2 were insignificant. None of my friends were involved and they all thought I had lost my mind.

Can I open my mouth wider? Hmm...better left unsaid.
Also, you can't even tell which legs are mine. Weird!

I'm on the left standing up.
I think we were singing about Hugo and Kim.

I'm on the left in the beautiful green jumper.
The wrap was my grandma's mink.
She gave it to me and I still have it.

I was supposed to be interviewing to be a secretary here.
I had to tap dance really badly.
I think I over did it!

    Nice huge yellow dress, huh?
The big chick on the left is the one who stole my part.
I was a parent singing "Kids!".

The guy on my left in the picture went to Hollywood to try to become an actor. Last I heard he was living with his boyfriend and was jobless. *sigh* He was so convincing as my husband here.

And there you have my 5 minutes of fame in a very small high school. What was I thinking?

OMG----I spit my wine out (yes I am drinking this early) when I saw what you said, "I don't know which legs are mine..." and then SAW the picture!

You are fricken hysterical missy! That's great you got up and did it.

    Kudos! Or...should I say, "Cheers!" ????

    It's gotta be 5 o'clock somewhere, right?

My favorite times in high school were when we would all go to the auditorium and watch whatever current play the Drama club had been working on. I've always loved to watch plays and musicals onstage...I just love it!

Wish I coulda seen ya in yours!

That's so great! I'm such an attention whore that I did a lot of theatre in high school, and yet, my voice is as such that I never, ever, would have tried for a musical.

Regardless if you got the part you wanted or not things would probably be no different today. Just be happy you got out there and gave it a try. I so want to be in the music man someday, probably a towns person or something minor like that. Maybe someday. But I do have the memory of helping put on the high school musical.

I do like that green jumper too. Hope you had a fun time. I know I would, I enjoy high school productions.

LMAO, I love it. I wish I had old pics. Crab has most of them

    Can I share a story?

In the fifth grade, I was the narrator in a school play. Mom bought me a new outfit and everything.

Pam and Bob came to see it too. When I get home that night, the phone rang. It was Bob, disguising his voice. He said he was a talent scout or something dumb I fell for. I couldn't say anything. I just handed the phone to mom.

Damn, them 2 have been together forever. The best part is...they still like each other.

Only Mr. sign can tell you if you need to open wider. LOL

I never did the high school musical thing. It was probably best. I can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Yeah, I couldn't tell which leg was yours either. LOL!
