    Hodgepodge

All I can say about yesterday's responses to HNT is WOW! I thought that was the weirdest picture ever. I almost didn't post it but I didn't have a back up plan. I have no idea how I came up with the idea. I think I was looking for someway to cover myself up. Thanks to everyone who commented. Since I have terrible self esteem HNT really makes me feel good about myself at least one day a week.

Today is Friday the 13th. When I was 13 I went to see the movie on the 13th. me. I couldn't sleep for 2 days. Swimming in a lake or pond was out of the question It scared the shit out of me that whole summer. That movie really screwed with my head. I was sure I was going to die on Friday the 13th for the next 5 years. (Ok, I'm lying, I'm still scared.)

I did a little research on why Friday the 13th is considered unlucky. Here's a little of what I found:

    13: The Devil's Dozen

It is said: If 13 people sit down to dinner together, all will die within the year. The Turks so disliked the number 13 that it was practically expunged from their vocabulary (Brewer, 1894). Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue. Many buildings don't have a 13th floor. If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck (Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names). There are 13 witches in a coven. 13 corresponds with the number of lunar menstrual cycles in a year (13 x 28 = 364 days).

    Bad Friday

It is said: Never change your bed on Friday; it will bring bad dreams. Don't start a trip on Friday or you will have misfortune. If you cut your nails on Friday, you cut them for sorrow. Ships that set sail on a Friday will have bad luck – as in the tale of H.M.S. Friday ... One hundred years ago, the British government sought to quell once and for all the widespread superstition among seamen that setting sail on Fridays was unlucky. A special ship was commissioned, named "H.M.S. Friday." They laid her keel on a Friday, launched her on a Friday, selected her crew on a Friday and hired a man named Jim Friday to be her captain. To top it off, H.M.S. Friday embarked on her maiden voyage on a Friday, and was never seen or heard from again. It is also said that Eve tempted Adam in the Garden Of Eden on Friday.

On another subject, my sister once told me that the only people I am partial to are kids and old people. She might be right. As I was getting ready this morning, I had the Today Show on. They did a segment about a double duty daycare. They take care of elderly people and children and 3 times a week the two get to meet each other. The two groups call each other neighbors.

When I saw the little toddlers sitting on the old people's laps I started to cry (I'm teary right now just thinking about it). This idea is genious! It makes the elders who have the need to teach feel needed and the children who have a need to learn get the attention they crave.

Back to the crying. I am almost always a happy person. I always try to make the best of any situation but certain things make me cry no matter what. I cannot hear carousel music, circus music or marching bands without crying secretly. I don't know why. It just makes me teary eyed. Weird thing is I was in a marching band so that made it a little difficult during parades. I think I may have been a circus clown who was stomped by an elephant in a previous life.

Friday the 13th used to be such a big deal when we were kids...I wonder why the date is so infamous in the first place?

    Clowns scare me.

Pantylines~I thought it was a great idea too. Someday (hopefully) we will all be old.

Phoenix~I forgot to mention that I HATE clowns.

Jenn, that is an absolutely heart warming idea with both young and old getting together.

Hopefully it will restore some of the respect back in to the young of today. There seems to be no respect for the elderly these days in the UK.

That made me smile, thanks Jenn.

    :)

You think if I go out to eat tonight instead of cooking at home I'll get food poisoning?? LOL

Friday the 13th has never really bothered me...not that superstitious I guess. That was an interesting post though!

Meghan was born on April 13, so she's 9 whole months old today!! It also means she's gonna have some birthdays on Friday the 13th. Hope she don't end up being the superstitious kind!

First, let me just comment on your HNT shot---absolutely beautiful! Very creative……I was browsing around and decided to comment on your latest post.

Wow, that is so interesting about Friday the 13th bit. Now, I know there’s a lot of superstitions, but my question to you is—they had calendars back when Adam and Eve were still alive?

    *scratching head*

MamaK~My stepbrother was born on Friday April 13th! Cool!

Deb~I think the Friday reference was that There were 7 days when God created the Earth, therefore Friday would be the 6th day. Maybe they didn't call it Friday but that the 6th day of the week would become Friday. The article also stated several more religous Friday events that turned out bad. One being the crucification of Christ. The link is there that will explain more if you are interested.

Sorry baby, I so want to play meat salesman with you. Like I ring the bell and you anwer then I'm all "I got some meat for sale" Then you go "is it bad" Then I go "that's for you to decide I have a tasting sample for you"

I've been an apostle all day...no slight intended.

Damn, GiGi is doing HNT even when she did not do it herself. I think the world is right once again.

I love the idea about the elderly/young. Great idea indeed.

Growing up, since my since was Cancer (June/July baby) I was so convinced I was going to die of cancer. Of course that happens all the time so I may not be that far off. You will be just fine ... just stay away from the great lakes ... who knows what lurkes there.

One final thing, one day I swear that dwarf clown that runs around town was chasing me from store to store. I would show up at one store and he was there. Then I would move on to another and he showed up before I left and another he was just arriving as I left. It would have been a nightmere for you.
