    Kid Stuff

    #2
Daughter #2 woke up Thursday morning with spots all over her torso. Not just a few, over 50. I was sure they looked like bug bites so I sent her to school and told her not to show anyone (I'm such a great mom). I had just made the 25 minute trip to work and as I was unlocking the door, my cell phone rang. It was #2's school. She wasn't feeling well. I had to drive all the way back. The secretary at school said that chicken pox were running rampant. I called the doctor's office to see if they could see her. Luckily, I have a very old fashioned doctor who will see you no matter what.

#2 has had a mild case of the pox along with the Varicella vaccine so I was sure it wasn't chicken pox. She also never had a fever and the spots didn't itch.

The doctor looked at the spots and decided that he had no idea what it was. He looked in the dermatology book to see if he could figure it out. He was stumped. This guy has been a doctor for over 50 years so he's no spring chicken. He asked if he could take pictures so he could show them to another doctor and also contact the Health Department. He said to be on the safe side, he had to say that it was Chicken Pox and she was to be quarantined. He still hasn't called me back.

I was just talking to my sister. The girls spent last Saturday night with her and had been in her hot tub. Her husband had put lots of chemicals in before they got in. Now I'm thinking that is what caused the rash since it's concentrated in her bathing suit area and nowhere else.

Daughter #1 plays the upright string bass in orchestra. She attends a performing arts school and is in the 8th grade. She recently auditioned for a spot on the Junior Symphany for our city. She made it! She's playing with high school kids from all over the area. They will be performing at the Wharton center (on the campus of Michigan State University) this month.

This past week the school put on the play Peter Pan. #1 scored some of the music that the band played as well as playing the bass during the play. I cried as they played the music that my daughter composed. They even thanked her in the program and called her up on the stage after the conclusion.

    I am one proud momma!

Edit~ I'm messing around with my template. I just couldn't look at that other one any longer. I have no clue what I'm doing so let me know if you really hate something. I may just change it if I can figure it out.

mystery illnesses are a bad thing when it comes to your children, and the word quarantine strikes fear in my heart

Jenn, your kids sound so talented and stable. I look at the youth here and hope that one day they will have the "old fashioned" values we had when we grew up.

I hope the spots do turn out to be a reaction to the chemicals. You seem to have a calm attitude to it. That's the pro coming out. Whoops, I didn't mean that kind of pro. LOL.

Something about this put a tear in my eye ... that is until the phone rang. Darn phone.

How wonderful for daughter #1 and I am sure it is just a reaction for daughter #2.

I am so proud of you for being such an amazing mom! Your kids obviously know you love and believe in them.

#1...I know what a HUGE deal it is to be chosen to play with the symphony...as for the original composition...holy cripes!

#2...I'm glad you're not wigging out over the spots. I thought Buddha had chicken pox a couple of weeks ago. I even made an emergency appointment for an evening check-up deal. I realized I was over-reacting and cancelled it. It was a stupid rash...I'd fed him refried beans. *shrugging* Some moms will try anything once. *snort*

Jenn, I like your new bluesy look.

You seem to have a wee problem with the masthead though, it's not displaying properly.

    Have a great Sunday. :)

Cadbury~Thanks! The spots look much better.

Suze~Thank you. I try to be a good mother but it's tough sometimes but well worth it.

Shay~Welcome! #2 is extremely smart. I'd love to go on and on about the girls but we all know that gets old.

Barman~We both had tears then. I was a mess trying not to be noticed as the tears rolled on. Thanks!

TC~That's not the bass she plays, just one on the internet. I need to take a picture of the one she plays.

Buddha~You have all of this to look forward to. It really is the best part of life!

Snow~I look forward to hearing about your kids.

Pissy~Blogger is sucking big hairy balls right now and I just added to it with my changes.

Suze~I got tired and decided to let it rest a bit. I'm still working on the mast head. I have no idea what I'm doing.

    Ell~Thanks and thanks!

Madame~Your template looks so much cleaner. I don't think there is a way to change the comment thing.

TC~I know what you are looking at ;-) Thanks!

Gist and Pox are natural opposing forces. This is why the plague was not able to spread to the Americas. No need to graze, in this day and age all foodstuffs are packing into small containers and shipped o'er the sea.
