Today is RIF day at school. For those unaware, this is a partially federal funded program that gives all kids at participating schools three free books a year. The non federal portion is supported by United Way designations and PTAs. This program was in place when I was in school.
It's the most exciting of the jobs I do at the school. The kids actually get excited to receive free books. It's so good to see them reading instead of playing video games or watching TV.
I've been doing this program for 6 years and this one will be my last. The district
coordinator asked me yesterday to be on the RIF Board next year. Apparently this is quite an honor. I told her I would think about it since I'm winding down from the last 10 years of volunteering at the elementary school.
I will miss watching the kids' excitement about books most of all.

Time to pass the torch Jenn!
Great job sweetie!
Well you should be honored for all you have done. But I agree with g-man, time for someone else to pick up where you left off.
I hope you have a great day with the kids.
Awwww, that is so cool. That is a neat program. I see your dilemma, as the kids move to the next level, you will want to volunteer with them. Have a great day sweetie.
What a wonderful program and it's great you are so involved with it.
tc
And I am sure that they will miss you just as much if not MORE than you will miss them. What a great thing to do.
Those are going to be some big shoes for the next person to fill!
It is so cool to see kids enjoying reading and great that you've been a part of making that happen. Way to go out on a high note!

I remember that program. Good to see it is still around! Great job!
My kids love getting the RIF books. They have brought home some awesome books from school. 10 years is a long time...you deserve a little break...but, if you wanna do it...go jenn go!!
Sounds like a great program to be involved in - we don't have anything like that here. The kids will really miss you!
Well done.
Thanks for the visit by the way, Vegas must be a real dream for a sign maker!!
It is so refreshing to see a teacher who cares about her students.
