    Happy Day!

Today marks six months since my gastric bypass surgery. My weight loss total so far is 115 pounds and 6 clothing sizes.

Here are some things I've noticed in the past few months:

    • I can walk up more than 1 flight of stairs without being out of breath for 10 minutes.
    • The seat in my van had to be moved forward and the steering wheel lowered.
    • Mr. Sign and I can hug face to face instead of belly to belly.
    • Both of my girls can get their arms around me with room to spare.
    • People talk to me now who wouldn't give me the time of day when I was heavier (this one infuriates me).
    • At the end of a workday, I'm not so exhausted that I can't function.
    • I'm no longer afraid to try and sit in a restaurant booth for fear that I won't fit.
    • I can see part of the seat in my car when I'm sitting on it.
    • Mr. Sign's little car no longer tries to kill me when I get in and out.
    • Did I mention sex after both parties have lost over 100 pounds each?
There are many more but of course, I can't think of them at the moment.

I've decided that I'm tired of hiding what I looked before and now. Here are the before and now shots that will probably horrify you all. I haven't gotten brave enough to tell you my weight, but maybe some day.

The biggest change that I noticed is in your face... I think you look much younger now. :) I know it hasn't been an easy 6 months... you've worked hard, and it's paying off. Can't wait to see what you do in 6 more months!

As for telling your weight... hey, it was hard for me and I wasn't even technically overweight. But it was freeing too, so I'm glad I did. You do what feels comfortable for you... we'll be proud of your accomplishments with or without a number. :)

You look so wonderful Jenn. It has made a nice difference especially in your face.

You know the funny thing about people more likely to talk to you now, I would be the opposite. You are someone I would be less likely to talk to now then before. Why? I guess I would figure you were less likely to want to talk to me. Of course I know the real SignGurl no matter what you look like.

Congratulations, that is amazing how far you have come in only a half a year. How wonderful.

Amazing! You have made such incredible progress. As for the number on the scale, it is so not important - your health & happiness are all that matter! I love that shirt too, it's cute!

    on the sex front...

i was going to post this link yesterday, but chose not to because i was worried about whether it would be viewed as insensitive. it is an article discussing the active role that fat plays in the body - fat used to be viewed as inert storage - but not anymore. i did this research after i lost my 60 lbs and discovered that my sex drive had revved right up. i couldn't believe that it was all psychological. in the various articles i discovered that fat plays an active role in regulating sex drive related hormones. hope this is of interest - it may be something you already know.

"In the old days, people used to think fat tissue was a passive organ," said Rexford S. Ahima, an endocrinologist at the University of Pennsylvania. "Now it's obvious that it makes and secretes more hormones and proteins than probably any other. It's at the center of a very complex system. It coordinates how much we eat, how much energy we burn, how the immune system works, how we reproduce. The list goes on."

Big congratulations, Jenn! You look splendid! Add crossing your legs and being able to bend more easily. That said, the stupid scale at my PCP's read 5lb more than my home scale this morning.. so I'm up three. Grrrr.

You look great! Time to get some clothes that will show off your new body. If you get a chance to watch the "What Not to Wear Show", you'll get some good ideas. We've learned so much by watching it.
