    Children Of The Corn

Last week #1 and I decided to take pictures in the corn field. The corn is about two weeks ahead in it's growth. Normally at this time, it's only about knee high (by the 4th of July).

Kimmy K posted some corn stories last week the day after we took these pictures. Her remembrances of corn fields are almost identical to mine. We spent many hours as children playing in the corn fields. I remember crawling on my hands and knees between the rows when the corn was only a foot high, while playing hide and go seek. When the corn got taller, we would run down the rows, ears of corn slapping you in the side of your head, while your younger sister and you played tag.

When the weather stays above 70 degrees at night, the corn continues to grow. If you sit in the field, you can actually hear it growing. It snaps and pops as the cells expand. It's quite an experience.

This is #1 (click to enlarge):

This would be me (notice the humidity hair):

I'm so glad that even though I live in the city, I'm still able to keep that part of me that is a country girl and share the experience with my children.

Jenn the title gave me chills :) this was a fun article to read and it kind of reminded me of hee haw and their corn bit routines.

It looks like ya'll had a great time. Your hair looks fine and it's getting so long kiddo.

It's times like these that you share with your family that will be remembered with fondness.

Have a great week, dont work to hard.

I made a few day trip to Gun Lake and saw lots of corn. I have not seen corn growing in it's usual places so I thought the crop was going to be bad. Of course there were the flooded out parts too but for the most part, most corn was doing well.

I did not spend a lot of time in the corn fields, some just not a lot. I remember being on the edge of corn fields (cousins house) and yes that brings buck memories. Well that and we used the tractor to dig up a few acres and plant a garden one year. After popping the clutch a few times on the old Ford tractor and doing wheelies (not intended), I finally got the hang of it and tilled most of the land for the garden. Alas we did not plant enough corn and it did not fair to well. None the less, you bring that memory back to me now.

Looking awesome Sign. Where are the tassels ... on the corn! I want some good corn!!!
