O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

For those of you who don't already know, I live in the capital city of Michigan. Who knows their capitals? Come on, I know at least one of you does. Anyway, I have lived here for 15 years and for the most part it is wonderful.

Including the outlying areas, there are over 200,000 people here. The
great part is that we are not that far from the rural areas I love so much. My family lives south of me and my grandfather farms almost 1000 acres. I have a lot of room to roam when I need it. There are times when I miss the country but it's just a short car ride away and it's not uncommon for me to spend the day walking in the fields or woods.

The best part about living in the capital city is that I can visit the state capital anytime I like. The best time in my opinion is at Christmas time. I'm not going to be politically correct and call it the holiday season. Those trees that we decorate with lights, bows and balls are called Christmas trees. Not holiday trees. I don't think Jewish people want to call the Menora anything other than that so I don't expect Christians to call a Christmas tree a holiday tree. I'm off the subject that I was planning on discussing here so I'll stop ranting now. My new blogger friend Bryan was kind enough to email these pictures to me. We were downtown at Silver Bells and because my daughter was playing at a concert, we didn't get to see the lighting of the tree. Thanks, Bryan!

I love the perspective of this one. The capital building seems to be looming in the background with the emphasis on the dome.

The tree this year is huge! The lights seem to be a little wacky
looking and I'm not sure why they are out of place.

I feel like a kid peeking around the tree trying to glimpse someone. The cable suppplying electricity is over 8 inches around. That's a lot of voltage! Your tax dollars at work, baby.

This is my second favorite. It looks so peaceful. I feel like I'm walking up Michigan Ave.

This is my favorite. I like the glow around the street light. It looks surreal. You will notice that the banner on the fence says Holiday Tree. Arrrgh..............

    Merry Christmas!!!!

What another great blog entry Jenn. I fell in love with your blog when I saw your Silver Bells entry. I still love everything you share and in the mean time I have gotten to know you. What a nice bonus.

I think we should recognize Christmas, and Hanukkah (starts the 26th this year), and Kwanzaa (also starts the 26th) but please, please, please let us keep Christmas intact. It is a Christmas tree.

I love your comment about the menorah... people who think they have to be politically correct annoy the hell out of me. Holiday tree bah humbug! If you don't like what someone says, you just don't listen... why should they have to change what they say???

    Ok, enough ranting!

    Merry CHRISTMAS!!! :)

I think you and I have a major thing in common! We have the best of both worlds. I live a little outside the city up in the country in New York----and it's so nice out here, yet it's close enough to just hop over to the city.

I totally agree with you about the holiday tree. GET OVER IT! (not you) Those overly sensitive souls who think we should be politically correct. I mean, yeah, watch how you say, "Merry Christmas" if you KNOW someone is Jewish- but as a holiday? We have been decorating CHRISTMAS trees for years and years and years. They also display Haunakah and other holidays out there- but Christmas happens to be the biggest one out there.

Why argue over a holiday season when it's supposed to be a happy occasion. This is one of the many reasons why it's becoming more and more stressful.

Great pictures! Bryan's in your state- I forgot!
