    Christmas 2006

The girls were surprised on Christmas morning with the ever elusive Nintendo Wii.

Ah, the holiday let down. All that planning and prepping is over in a matter of hours.

I was leary about going to be with my family after the Thanksgiving incident. I went in trying not to look for compliments knowing that I would only get slammed. My imediate family of course said nothing until some extended family remarked about how great I looked.

I feel like an ugly duckling sitting in a corner waiting for the smallest show of appreciation for all of my hard work. Maybe I feel more like a dog waiting patiently to lap up any affection or attention coming my way. I can't figure out why I need their approval.

I feel great and yet I am still horrified by how I look in pictures. In my head, that's not how I look. I wonder if I will ever accept me?

Mr. Sign will have gastric bypass surgery this Thursday, December 28th. I'm nervous for him. He has some health issues including past DVT's (deep vein thrombosis or blood clots in the legs). He will have a procedure first to place a filter in his Vena Cava to stop any clots from entering his lungs or brain. He will have to lay still for 5 hours and then have the bypass procedure. It's going to be a long day.

He had some trouble with the 2 week pre op diet because he was allergic to the food. He found about 4 products he could tolerate and has had it so rough through the holidays. He's lost quite a bit of weight already (about 30 pounds). He will lose more, quicker than me (jerk!) according to the doctor.

Please send positive vibes Mr. Sign's way on Thursday. Hopefully he won't need them, but it never hurts.

    Hello!

Merry Christmas and happy new year!

I hope you will join our band of gypsies?

Jenn, just remember, there are some people that know how great you look. Soon enough you'll have to be beatin off with a stick. Enjoy the calm while you can..Galen

You will learn, as will the rest of us, to accept our new bods. It won't be easy, but we will :)

As for your family, I'd be questioning to. Ironically your family sounds like I expected mine to be. But still, I seek out Mom's approval -- I which it didn't matter, but it does. I think it's just one of those things I'll leave in the "okay-not-to-understand" category.

For what it's worth, you're not alone! *hugs*

Sheets~ Good to see you and thanks.

Barman~ With the lifestyle I am now carving out, I'm not allowed not to focus on chiseling out a new me. Strangely, it hasn't been that hard during the holidays. I eat what I normally eat. Thanks for the well wishes for Mr. Sign.

TC~ Thanks, I hope my head catches up with the body soon.

    KJ~ Happy birthday!

MamaKBear~ The Wii took several defunct trips to the stores before the big score. Mr. Sign found a website that publishes the Sunday ads before Sunday and was able to get it at a 24 hour store at midnight on Sunday.

Dirk Star~You are the sweetest man! Thank you so much for taking the time to care. I've added you to my band of gypsies as well :)

G-Man~ Thanks for always being so supportive. I hope we can get to know each other better in the new year.

    Zen Wizard~ Back at 'cha!

Donna~ The new bod's got a long way to go but I'm happy to wait for it. The family is having a hard time placing me into my usual obedient, subserviant self. They have only known me as the largest in the family for too many years. I guess they aren't sure what my new place will be.

I'm so proud of your weightloss!

ShyRocket~I remember you! I hope things are going well for you and yours.

Grainne~ I've been thinking of you a lot lately. I'm so impressed with your weightloss but even more so because you kept it off. When you find that switch, let me know how to turn mine on.

I'm not sure how I would have reacted to my mother asking me not to call her mom in public. I know I would have been devestated.

Mr. Sign has already lost more than I did pre op. My doctor has a theory that men lose weight faster because in a time of famine, more women were needed (to raise families) and therefore hold onto their weight. It only takes one man to impregnate many women but it takes many women to populate the world. Makes sense to me.

    Please don't be a stranger!

G-Man~I know what you mean :)

sending positive vibes to you both...

Doesn't it suck that men can lose weight way faster than woman. Just another of God's cruel punishments for women.....I bet you look fabulous...

    Merry Christmas too!

I'm another person who dropped by thanks to Dirk. I'm so glad I did. I've gone back and read a variety of your postings....not everything of course...but some. Some were sad. Some were funny. Some were sexy. Some were just brilliant. I am definitely marking your spot as a place to visit often!

I admit I am another Dirk recommendee, but it's so good to be let into the window of another perason's reality! Good luck and God's blessing to your hubby as he goes in for surgery!
Keep up the good work on your end, too!

Well now, seems like we've all made some new friends.

I'm glad everyone has visited and Mr.Sign will be more than okay with this many prayers coming his way.

Happy Holidays and are we going to enjoy the new year or what?

Hey!! What happened to my comment? I was here, honest.

I just know Mr. Sign will be fine. Your only problem will be...Who get's to buy the most new clothes. That should be you by the way, cause you are a girly. Of course you will need new shoes as well because your feet will shrink. LOL We can go to Chicago together and buy shoes. I love shoes!

    Happy Day.

    Terry~ Thank you!

Naughty Girl~ I can remember both Mr. Sign and I being on Weight Watcher. I never cheated and he would be eating candy bars and he still lost more than I did.

Jay~ Thank you for the good vibes and for stopping by.

Em~ Well thank you very much!

~Lizard Princess Thank you for the prayers and for visiting.

Dirk Star~Thank you again for sending these new friends my way. You rock!

Manny~ I think shoe shopping is always in order. We could put a dent in Chicago.

Merry Christmas from another dirk_star reader! (OK - Kwaanzaa! I'm too late for Christmas!)

FWIW, my sister had that gastric bypass surgery a few years back. Reading your posts, I'm trying to think back to figure out if I might've inadvertently said something hurtfull, post-op. (I know I said plenty growing up!)

I'll be checking in to see how the hubby does.

    Happy New Year and all...

Amazing that it took an extended family member to get that ball rolling and yet, not that amazing. Families are strange sometimes. Some of them can be very supportive and others seem to be happier holding you in the status quo.

Far as I'm concerned, you are doing fantastic! You're a rock star, kid. You have been right from the first day I met you. You're just gonna be a healthier more energetic rock star now.

My prayers will be said for Mr. Sign tonight. But I agree with Barman. he'll be ok. Don't worry overmuch. These folks are very, VERY, good at what they do.

PS. Your daughters are soooo lovely! And your tree is pretty darn nice too. I have to start doing a better tree job. Mine is pathetic.

Yeegads, Sign. I just read your Thanksgiving post for the first time. Ok, that was just WRONG! There's no excuse for that.

    All Right Jenn,
I haven't said anything to you today yet. Hows it going? The old man holding up OK?
It's never pleasant going under the knife, but if you did it, that will be all the inspiration that he needs.
I wish I could be there holding your hand, comforting you...in my mind, I am....Galen

WOW, Mr Sign's surgery came up fast. Time flies.

Sending good vibes and thoughts his way for a great outcome and speedy recovery like you.

Both of you will be "new" and shiny in 2007--how exciting!

    Hello Mrs. Sign,

Like the many before me, I am also a member of Dirk's lil band of gypsies. I've read some of your posts, and I am deeply touched, especially the Thanksgiving episode. I used to be "smaller" also, and I can totally relate with what you're going through.

Let it be said that no other person can tell us what to eat, what to wear nor how to look. Please carry on and be what you are for what you are, what we all are, is beautiful.

Happy Holidays to your family and God Bless to you and Mr. Sign.
