    Always A Reason

Last week I had intended on going to a weight loss surgery support group meeting. After 8 hours of standing on my feet, 2 inches of rain and the fact the the meeting didn't start until 7 pm, I almost didn't go. Something kept telling me in the back of my head to go. I wasn't sure why, but I knew there was a reason for me to be there.

I was almost late getting to the meeting and there were 10 people waiting to enter the room when I arrived. There were over 100 people in the room. I'm used to a more intimate size group so I was already pissy about being there. I finally found a seat just as the first speaker began to talk. I was really mad when I realized that the whole meeting was a glorified advertisement for the local bariatric program.

As I tried to cool my heals and bring myself back to why I was there, I spotted a woman that I thought I had been very good friends with over twenty years before. I hadn't seen her for over 15 years but had been thinking about her for the last three months. She and I worked together at a plus size women's clothing store as 18 year olds.

I watched her mannerisms and decided that it was for sure her. I wanted to yell out to her, but didn't want to make more of an ass of myself so I waited through the entire boring meeting. Just before the end, she got up to leave, so I bolted out of the other door to try to catch her.

I had to explain who I was since she didn't recognize me. Immediately, she threw her arms around me and we giggled like school girls. She explained that she was having surgery on Monday.

I knew at that moment that some higher power had made me go to that meeting so that I could be there for her.

In the next couple of days, she emailed me many questions and I gave her my experiences. I just returned from visiting her in the hospital and she's doing great. We are both so excited that I can be there to help her on her journey.

So, when that nagging voice in your head tells you to do something that you don't feel like doing, there just might be reason for you to listen.

That is so wonderful. First I am sure she really appreciates all you have done already. It has to be comforting for her. And at the same time I bet it will help energize you all over again. That meeting was indeed destined. Greta post.

I definitely want to spend more time listening to that inner voice, despite the outer distractions. Yesterday, I gave our rebbetzin some money to give to charity prior to her trip home from a gathering (she's in a wheelchair). Reason: I just had a feeling that she was due for an accident and we say that "charity protects from death and misfortune". Utterly irrational, but I felt it so majorly in my gut, I did it. Now if I could just get my gut to tell me to go to exercise tomorrow..
